Outside Plant (OSP) Engineer (2 open)

ATMC, North Carolina’s largest telecommunications cooperative, is currently seeking an Outside Plant Engineers (seeking 2). ATMC is located along the beautiful Atlantic coast, conveniently located in easy driving distance between Wilmington, NC and Myrtle Beach, SC

This position of Outside Plant (OSP) Engineer is responsible for engineering and planning for expansion or reinforcement of outside plant facilities for ATMC (Atlantic Telephone Membership Corp.) service area and for issuing complete work orders (including distribution, cutsheets, and all necessary permits) to the construction department. Prepares drawings for engineering, commercial, and office projects. Utilizes computer-aided design (CAD), GIS Mapping, Windows Office and LodeData software, and AS400 system data to prepare layouts and detail drawings. Prepares working plans and complete drawings, working from rough and detailed sketches. Develops and maintains a filing system for copies of engineering drawings and related materials.

The Outside Plant Engineer will prepare work orders to include cost estimates, staking sheets, material requirements, distributions, recommendations, and necessary permits, visits field locations to stake for new construction and for replacement and rearrangement of existing outside plant, this will include obtaining right-of-way permits for work order construction and may include obtaining sites for new or relocated facilities, will secure understandable field notes for preparation of staking sheets. Will ensures that construction progresses smoothly by determining that all necessary preliminary work is completed prior to the work order being released to Construction. Will include right-of-way permits, DOT encroachment permits, joint-use notification/requests, and coordination with power, water, and developers. Will obtain right-of-way from private property owners. Will prepare and assists in all phases of the transition between existing and newly constructed plant facilities, verifies cost and type of materials on invoices for all construction jobs, assigns number to outside plant work orders and delivers completed staking sheets to construction when ready for construction, maintains power company pole attachment and detachment counts. Will keep abreast of new technologies and techniques to be applied to design and build of Outside Plant Facilities, promote a positive image of the company to customers, co-workers, contractors, management, and others. Attends various meetings with management, departments, contractors, government agencies, vendors, and others to ensure company objectives are met. Reports as requested to co-workers and ATMC Managers regarding work status, monitors work in progress and assists construction forces with engineering advice, as needed. Will prepare drawings and layouts for engineering, commercial and office project using CAD, GIS mapping, AS400, LodeData, spreadsheet, and various document and mapping software, prepare detailed construction sheets, maps, and other related specification sheets for use in the planning, construction and/or installation of telecommunications equipment. Will drafts equipment wiring diagrams, schematics and other equipment layout designs as requested. Ensure drawings, maps and work plans are accessible by developing and maintaining a filing system for engineering drawings and related materials. Will participates in intra-departmental planning and training, make job safety a primary objective in all duties, maintain a current and valid driver’s license to perform the duties of this position and perform all other related duties as assigned by management.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Engineering experience and/or training preferred.

Communications Services Technician

ATMC, North Carolina’s largest telecommunications cooperative, is currently seeking an Communication Services Technician. ATMC is located along the beautiful Atlantic coast, conveniently located in easy driving distance between Wilmington, NC and Myrtle Beach, SC

This Communication Services Technician will install, maintain and service telephone, cable television (CATV), fiber to the premises (FTTP), broadband, DSL, VDSL services and IPTV Triple Play services. Also, responsible for Internet lines and cables, terminals, protective devices, and customer-owned equipment. On call for emergency call out 24/7. Will work some Saturdays and extended work days. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

CST installs new services and equipment for subscribers by installing CAT 5 wiring, co-ax cable, aerial drop wire, fiber optic cables and related equipment, ground blocks, station protectors, network interface devices, CATV splitters, CATV amps, modems, routers, switches, HPNA bridges, CATV boxes, outdoor and indoor power supplies, ONTS and MDU’s. CST verifies QOS (Quality of Service) by the means of various test equipment including but not limited to: Laptop with Legends, Mariner, Clear Vision, ISAT and Wire Shark Software, JDSU V3 Meter, EXPO Meter, Sunrise Meter, Tempo Sidekick, Cable Scout, Dynatel Locator, Fiber Light Meter, Volt/OHM and Data Safe Test Sets. CST wires new services using various power tools, hand tools and equipment, maintains and repairs existing services and equipment using all the test equipment listed above, completes all outside plant installation and repair forms including customer billing sheets and daily inventory. Technician utilizes Smart Phone and laptop to receive and complete work, document test results as well as complete electronic timesheets, confers with customers to determine problems and acceptable resolutions as well as providing extensive training on all services provided, promotes and offers all other services provided by ATMC. CST provides exceptional customer service and efficiency in all services provided.

Communication Service Technician with training will be knowledgeable of ATMC products, services, policies, and procedures and ability to locate this information when necessary. Will takes personal responsibility for enhancing knowledge and understanding of telecommunications and new product and service offerings that may affect job duties. Will possess required skill set to be sent to the job and executes them correctly on a consistent basis with minimal supervision. Working knowledge and understanding of internet/networking and data communication fundamentals (i.e. protocols, standards). Working knowledge and understanding of internet access provider equipment (i.e. broadband, dial-up). Working knowledge and understanding of internet/networking equipment (i.e. routers, switches). Working knowledge and understanding of common telephone, CATV, DSL, FTTP, VDSL, and IPTV. Detail understanding of tasks and skills required for installation, repair and termination of services provided. Understanding of departmental policies, practices, and procedures specific to their individual job duties and implementation of same on a daily basis. Detailed knowledge of all equipment required to carry out job assignments. Skill in operating service equipment including various hand tools, power tools and testing equipment. Skill in reading cable records, staking sheets, specifications, and circuit diagrams. Skill to communicate tactfully and skillfully with both the written and spoken word to customers, vendors, and fellow employees. Listens to, builds and maintains positive relationships with customers and fellow employees. Maintains open and timely communication of relevant and necessary information. Communicates effectively with disgruntled customers to resolve problems. Must maintain confidentiality with all business related information. Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions using information at hand. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license. Ability to function effectively as a team player. Ability to lift minimum of 40 pounds. Ability to report to work regularly and punctually. Ability to work overtime both with and without notice as necessary. Ability to be on call and work on weekends and holidays. Ability and history of working safely. Ability to work both in and out-of-doors in various weather conditions. Must be proficient in PC use.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Prefer one year telecommunications schooling and one year or greater experience. CompTIA Network+ certification a plus.
